Due to excessive rain and poor weather conditions, Senior Sunset is rescheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22.
Despite being postponed, the location and time remains the same. Although Senior Sunset is typically held at Bob Woodruff Park, the area is under construction. According to peshseniors26 on Instagram, the event will be held at Breckenridge Park instead, however parking is limited. Apple Maps provides two options for the location, but Senior Sunset will be held close to the location on Park Vista road.
Senior Sunset is a tradition where the graduating class gathers close to the last day of school to watch the sun go down together. Conversely, Senior Sunrise is an event held at the beginning of the year. Senior Sunset marks the end of senior year. It symbolizes a closed chapter on students’ K-12 journey.
Seniors are encouraged to wear a shirt that reflects plans after graduation. Typical event activities include shirt signing; some students bring white T-shirts for friends to sign and write messages on. Other activities include field sports, taking photos, music and having a picnic. While Senior Sunset photos are known for capturing an important milestone, according to Adobe, the timing is primarily chosen for “golden hour” lighting. The sun creates a warm, cinematic glow that softens skin tones and eliminates harsh shadows.
Senior Sunset is a rite of passage for graduating seniors. Capturing photos during this time symbolizes the closing of one major chapter and the start of a new one.
