Riya George

Riya George, Reporter

Riya George is a senior and a reporter for the  Panther Prints staff this year. She has always loved to build new worlds through creative writing, and she recently rediscovered her passion for writing after coming to the school. Riya wants to challenge herself with a completely new form of writing for her senior year and looks forward to conquering her fear of stepping out of her comfort zone. The school is a huge campus with thousands of new faces and she hopes to connect people through her work. She would love to tell the stories hiding in the shadows of the school and deliver the most accurate and timely news possible.

In her free time, Riya loves to dance and is an officer in the school's Indian dance team, Taal. Catch her zoning out to music in the hallways or talking about how she would rather be at home with her cat, Theo.

U.S. history teacher Dean Malabanan writes notes on the Civil War in class Dec. 13. Malabanan balances teaching with pursuing additional education. Imagine trying to do your course here and then you have to do homework for your [other] two classes, Malabanan said. It’s a balance that you just have to find.

Balancing Act: Senior Fatima Malik works on several assignments at once. Students struggle with taking both high-level classes and electives and the new GPA system aims to fix the imbalance. I think [the new GPA policy] is a good and bad thing, senior Teena James said. But itll let kids have more time to find what they want to do.
