Hulsey Throws Hard

Junior Jake Hulsey is one of the great baseball players that play on Plano East’s Varsity team. He is a pitcher but can also play outfield, which is important to the team. He throws an “86-mph fastball,” but that’s not the only devastating pitch that Hulsey throws. Jake can also throw a “change-up, curveball, and slider,” which are all considered to be hard pitches to hit. When asked what his best pitch is, Hulsey said, “Fastball, because I’ve worked on it since I started pitching.” In the week before a start, Hulsey throws two bullpen sessions to prepare himself for the game. Hulsey appreciates the leadership that the seniors bring, “(The seniors show) new varsity guys how things work and how hard we must play to win.” Hulsey is humble off the field, but when he is “hitting his spots,” like he was against Arlington High, he has the potential to throw games in which the opposing team doesn’t stand a chance. In the game last Friday, Hulsey pitched the whole game and only allowed one hit.
