Winterguard is an indoor form of Colorguard, and the Winterguard team is preparing for their upcoming competition. The Gold guard, which is the Varsity team’s show, is called “Dark Swan”, while the Onyx guard team, which is the Junior Varsity team’s show, is called “I am”. Gold Guard’s show has music from the Swan Lake ballet mixed with other songs. Onyx Guard’s show features the song I am by Christina Aguilera. Their practices for their show are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and sometimes Saturdays. Both teams competed at a competition on Jan. 26, at McKinney Boyd High School. Gold Guard placed 7 out of 11 Varsity teams, while Onyx Guard placed 5 out of 11 Junior Varsity teams. They are working hard for their upcoming competition on February 22 at JJ Pearce High School. This is just the second of two competitions, the Winterguard team is hoping to go to championships and win, says senior Elise Alduino.
