The NFL handed out some awards on Saturday night. The league’s MVP award was given to running back Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings. Peterson tore his ACL in Week 17 last season, and rushed for 2096 yards and 13 touchdowns this year. Peterson was only nine yards away from breaking the record set by Eric Dickerson in 1984. Peterson was the favorite but some experts thought that Peyton Manning would win the award. Manning won the Comeback Player of the Year, and is an All-Pro Quarterback. Robert Griffin III won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award by taking the Washington Redskins to the playoffs for the first time since 2007. The Defensive Rookie of the Year went to Luke Kuechly, the Carolina Panthers’ linebacker. The Walter Payton Man Of The Year went to tight end Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys. Coach of the Year went to Indianapolis Colts interim head coach Bruce Arians, and Defensive Player of the Year went to defensive end J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans.
