AFC Championship

Joe Flacco finally put the critics to bed with the 28-13 victory over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. A week after beating Peyton Manning, the Baltimore Ravens have beat for the second consecutive week, an elite quarterback. John Harbaugh and the Ravens will play the 49ers and coach Jim Harbaugh. After trailing by three in the first quarter, Joe Flacco led his team down the field to set up a one-yard touchdown run by running back Ray Rice. Flacco has been criticized for saying that he believes he is the best quarterback in the NFL, but he showed anybody who watched that he is an elite quarterback. Brady responded with a touchdown pass to his favorite wide receiver Wes Welker, and then the Patriots drove down the clock and kicked a 23-yard field goal as time expired in the first half. Ravens middle linebacker and captain Ray Lewis has said that this season will be his last. So it is fitting to see one of the best linebackers to ever play, have his last game be the Super Bowl. Baltimore owned the second half, as New England didn’t score a single point in the final 30 minutes. After the game, the AFC Championship trophy, which was presented by former Raven and O.J Brigance, a senior adviser to player development for the team. Brigance was diagnosed with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in 2007. Brigance was a member of the 2000 Super Bowl winning Baltimore ravens team that featured Ray Lewis. Lewis, who tore his right triceps in the win against the Dallas Cowboys in week six, has said that this game will be his last. It will be brother vs. brother for the title of best NFL team on Feb. 3.
