Seniors were celebrated at the game last week against McKinney Boyd at Kimbrough on Friday, Nov.2 making it their last time to play at the stadium they called their home. The stakes were high this game because of playoff rankings and seniors were overcome with emotions.
With East ending the game with the win, seniors felt over come with joy, making it a favorite game for many.
“It’s fresh on my mind and it was our first district win and we over came a lot of adversity so that was probably one of my favorite games,” senior Collin Shaw said.
This senior night proved to be bitter sweet for the players since it was their last time to play at Kimbrough.
“I felt a little bit sad on senior night just because it’s the last time playing at Kimbrough for the rest of your life, but I mean I’m happy we won, [but] didn’t want to leave, definitely wanted to stay on the field,” senior Jackson Garrey said, adding that his parents were sad as well for him because this night just showed how fast he grows up but they are also happy for him because they won.
“I felt sad and happy at the same time on senior night, I was glad we got the win at our last game at Kimbrough but also sad about all the memories,” Shaw said. “ I’ve been playing in there since my first game in seventh grade so its just like knowing how fast life passes and how football; something that’s a huge part of your life, just ends that quickly.”
With this win there is now a chance that the panthers could make it into playoffs, next week’s game against West will be a deciding factor as well.
“I haven’t watched much film on them [West] but I know they’re really good,” Shaw said. But I feel like if we play like we’re capable of then it should be a hard- fought game and we can come out on top.”
