This year’s varsity volleyball team consists of 16 young ladies, seniors, juniors, and one sophomore. Their season started mid-August and goes through late October.
This year’s team gained five new players after losing three seniors from last year.
“Our team overall is pretty good compared to last year,” junior Kendall Kolstad said. “We have all of the same key players, minus one star hitter that was a senior last year.”
The team has been practicing hard every Monday-Thursday morning, from 7-9 a.m.
“Practice on normal days usually consists of some warm up games, then specific position work, team defense drills and scrimmaging,” Mounger said
Because of all the hours of practice, the team is doing well so far this season.
“We have some really hard teams in our district, but we have been able to keep up and pull out some great wins,” Kolstad said.
As of Oct. 2, the team is two-two. With six games left, they’re hopeful of pulling through strongly. Their next big game is on Oct. 5, against Plano West.
“It’s going to be a big game for us,” senior Barrie Mounger said. “They’re definitely a team we need to take a game from, and we’ll be fighting hard to bring home a big win!”
With the season coming to an end, the team doesn’t have any more tournaments, only games.
“We have such a hard district with so many rival teams,” Kolstad said. “It’s so hard to pick one game that’s going be bigger than another.”
Spending hours on end, with practices and games, the team is very close, on and off the court.
“My favorite part about being on the volleyball team is team bonding and all my relationships with my teammates”, senior Gabby Litwin said. “I love them. We’re like a family.”
Like a family, the team is always there for eachother, supporting everyone along the way.
“The encouraging atmosphere my teammates surround me with makes me feel like it’s okay to make a mistake when we’re out playing a match, because they will be there to motivate me to do better,” senior Symone Stephenson said.
With all the hard work the team puts in day in and day out, the ladies still continue giving it their all and loving what they do.
“My favorite part about being on the team is being able to come in to school every morning, and despite what tests we have or homework that we didn’t
