Taheera’s Hits – February Music

Taheeras+Hits+-+February+Music

With music, every month is out with the old and in with the new. The month of love brought music lovers alike together with the unexpected collaborations, great tunes and expecting releases in store for February.  From albums to singles, here are just a handful of the hits of February.

Albums

I Decided – Big Sean:

Arguably one of the more underrated rappers of our time, Big Sean gives an ode to his old self with I Decided. The album’s concept is a parallel, said by Big Sean himself in a Jimmy Fallon interview, saying that this is him, but this is also the older him as well, guiding him through his decisions in life with wisdom. By discussing ideas of self-discovery, questioning self-worth and controversial topics such as Trump’s presidency in “No Favors” alongside Eminem, Big Sean has evolved as an artist, and as a person, with this album.

Plato o Plomo – Fat  Joe and Remy:

Capturing everyone’s attention last March with “All the Way Up” along with French Montana and Infared, this album is a collaborative product of the two. Mixing their rap styles together, Fat Joe comments that this album is a masterpiece, and it’s not too far from it. Both rappers stick to their roots with hard beats and lyrics, making this authentically Fat Joe and Remy Ma.

Steve Lacy’s Demo – Steve Lacy:

Reminiscent to the old days of R&B, Steve Lacy is a throwback to feel good music. With an actual band backing up his smooth voice, this artist is highly underrated. His songs aren’t what music is now – full of electronic beats, raps, and dance tracks. Steve Lacy’s music makes you genuinely want to dance, and to start of with this album, new listeners should listen to “Some” to get a feel for him.

Drunk – Thundercat:

Keeping along with the R&B mood, Thundercat’s album features mainstream artists such as Pharrell and Wiz Khalifa. His falsetto in almost every song mixed with the smooth, mellow melodies that are his tracks allows for this album to set you in a trance. February seems to be the month for lesser known artists to leave their mark on the industry, and hopefully, in the future, there’s more of Thundercat in the industry.

The Search for Everything: Wave Two (EP) – John Mayer:

Here’s another feel good album, paired with lighthearted rock elements and romantic themes, perfect for this month. It’s a shame that “Still Feel Like Your Man” didn’t come out earlier, or it would have had every single person on Valentine’s Day in tears while they danced. The song’s title is exactly what the track is about; he still feels like your man, ladies. Every single girl out there wished John Mayer was singing to them, although he creepily admits to still having his ex’s shampoo in his shower. However, this album completes its task in making you feel good. You could possibly say that this is everything we’ve searched for.

New Releases

“Slide” – Calvin Harris ft. Frank Ocean and Migos:

Shocking everyone with this rather weird collaboration, this is obviously more of a song for the spring and summer weather. With its chill beats mixed with the flow of the ever-so missed Frank Ocean and the rap scene’s new icon, Migos. This song is surprisingly pleasant to the ears, but there’s no way in the world anyone would believe Migos, Frank Ocean, and Calvin Harris all worked together to produce a song like this, but it works.

“Chained to the Rhythm” – Katy Perry ft. Skip Marley:

Exiting her era bubblegum pop, Katy Perry is back with the grandson of timeless Bob Marley, Skip Marley. While staying true to her addictive popstar sound, Katy Perry urges listeners to understand her lyrics this time around, discussing vaguely the topics of unhappiness and turning our faces from the realities of our world. However, the interpretation is meant to be special to the listener, making “Chained to The Rhythm” special personally.

“Shining” – DJ Khaled ft. Beyonce and Jay Z:

Possibly the power couple of this century, Beyonce takes on a rap approach mixed in with vocals as previously done on her more current songs. Jay Z returns to the music scene by accompanying his wife on this addictive dance track. With DJ Khaled’s beats made for dancing, Beyonce’s iconic vocals, and Jay Z’s bars, this song is sure to be downloaded onto everyone’s phones. Thank you, DJ Khaled.

“Some Way” – NAV ft. The Weeknd:

Possibly one of the most subliminally shady songs of this year, this is a diss track for Justin Bieber. This trap song takes some rather low blows, like talking about Selena Gomez. The song is not disappointing, but rather than focusing on musicality, it focuses on dissing Justin Bieber. This song will have everyone feeling some way after discovering the hidden message behind the track.

“How Would You Feel” by Ed Sheeran:

Ed Sheeran is back with another romantic song, making girls across the globe wish they were his girlfriend. His lyrics mixed with his voice pulls at the heartstrings, making you swoon with every note. 2017 is already Ed Sheeran’s year with his three songs, surely to make it to the top of the charts.

“Love” – Lana Del Rey:

Hypnotic vocals and chillingly smooth beats is the epitome of Lana Del Rey. Giving springtime vibes, Lana never disappoints vocally. This is the type of song to listen to when you just want to relax and clear your mind.  It’s truthfully enchanting, and just light some candles and relax while you listen to Lana Del Rey’s soothing vocals send chills down your spine.

February, in the end, was a month of good feelings, and these are only a few of the hits for this month. Every month, for the industry, is better than the last, and every music listener is shaking with anticipation for March’s gifts. From album to single, February had us covered.
