Cowboys Collapse Against Green Bay

Cowboys lose early lead, losing a nail biter to the Packers

The Cowboys faced a tough matchup in week five as they hosted the 3-1 Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys were looking to bounce back from a tough home loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Cowboys started the game on fire with quarterback Dak Prescott looking like his rookie self and dominating the pass game. Wideout Cole Beasley, who is underrated by most, collected two receiving touchdowns while star wideout Dez Bryant caught one. Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers also looked good in the first half, but only threw one touchdown pass to receiver Davante Adams. The Packers inched closer with one minute left in the first half with a rushing touchdown from running back Aaron Jones. Packers kicker Mason Crosby missed two extra points, which gave the Cowboys a not so bad 21-12 lead heading into the second half.

The second half was a different story: Aaron Rodgers showed us all why he is the best of the best in the regular season. The third quarter was routine, as the only points came from a 22-yard field goal by Crosby. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Cowboys had a six-point lead, but could not get comfortable with Rodgers on the Packers sideline. Rodgers kicked off the fourth quarter with a 10-yard passing touchdown to wide receiver Jordy Nelson to give the Pack a one-point lead. The Cowboys bounced back with a drive of their own, which ended with a 43-yard field goal with kicker Dan Bailey. The Cowboys stopped the Packers on the next drive giving them the ball with a two-point lead. The drive came to an end right as it begun as Prescott threw an interception, which was ran back by cornerback Damarious Randall for a touchdown, putting the Packers in front once again. Later in the quarter, Prescott led his team down the field and eventually scored with an 11-yard rushing touchdown to put the Cowboys up 31-28 with a minute and 14 seconds left. Rodgers tore through the Cowboys’ defense in the pass game, and the running game and put the Packers in the Red Zone with 20 seconds left. With 11 seconds left, Rodgers put the dagger in the Cowboys with a 12-yard passing touchdown to Davante Adams to defeat the Cowboys 35-31.

The team had a much needed bye week in week six, but received the news that fans were dreading. Star running back Ezekiel Elliott’s time has run out, and he now has to serve his six-game suspension. The Cowboys will be on the road for the next two weeks, as they will face the San Francisco 49ers and their division rivals, the Washington Redskins.
