Football players brandish their brand new gold chrome helmets at the latest game in which they defeated Plano West 36-8.

Plano East secured a fourth consecutive win, scoring a 36-8 win against Plano West on Sept. 18 at Kimbrough Stadium.

East marched onto the field sporting “Vegas Gold,” which came as a surprise to the fans who are accustomed to the new chrome helmets.

East broke the 0-0 deadlock midway through the first quarter courtesy of a 16-yard pass from quarterback junior Miklo Smalls to sophomore Jonathan Meadors for the first touchdown.

They further extended their lead to 22-0 following two rushing touchdowns by Smalls.

The junior quarterback wracked up 302 passing yards on 18-32 completions, with two touchdowns. He added 51 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

East opted not to run out the clock on the brink of halftime and were forced to punt the ball after a pass fell incomplete on third down. West made the most of that opportunity, as quarterback Logan Williams found Tanner Williams in the end zone to cut the lead down to 22-8.

The second half was dominated by East; they managed to nab two touchdowns of their own and conceded none, ending the game at 36-8.

The game marked the annual Live4Zachary honorary game. Plano East, in partnership with Live4Zachary, takes one game a year in which fans wear red to honor Zachary Schrah who passed away due to a congenital heart disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) during a spring practice in 2009.

Plano East has a bye week and then will play McKinney Boyd on Oct. 2 at Ron Poe Stadium.
