Nike, Adidas and Under Armour have all designed great uniforms for college football teams. But those three and more have designed some of the most ludicrous jerseys and helmets to match. Oregon, who is considered to have the most creative uniforms, is also known to have some of the most ridiculous ones in college football. This is because of the excessive amount of fashion that the world wants to see. It’s gotten out-of-hand, and sadly, people crave more and more fashion. Now teams like Maryland, Boise State, and Virginia Tech have outrageous uniforms. The uniforms are not easy on the eyes, but Maryland takes the cake for worst uniforms. The Terrapins tried to fit the state flag of Maryland on to their helmets and jerseys. The result: possibly the worst uniform in college football history. College males think the uniforms are awesome, and ESPN has sharply criticized the uniforms.
The uniforms that Nike made for the NFL however, look very nice and Nike did a great job. Most of the teams look nice except for a few exceptions. The Seattle Seahawks look putrid in their puke green colored jerseys, the Jacksonville Jaguars don’t look nearly as good in Nike as they did in Reebok, the Miami Dolphins look ugly in their new uniforms, you get the point. Nike has created new uniforms for all universities who will wear their clothes, and Nike has made some pretty nice uniforms. Army versus Navy, the perennial matchup between the two academies, uses Nike to design special “Pro Combat” jerseys and apparel for the game. Nike, Under Armour, and Adidas have become the top three uniform makers in the U.S.A.
The NFL and FBS(D-1) need to take a step back and look at what they allow the players to wear. Football has never been about the jerseys, it’s been about the game. Basic jerseys are the answer, but as long as Nike still exists, they will try to one-up every other sporting jersey manufacturers.
