Plano East football boosted their record to 2-0 last Friday, scoring a 57-42 win against Dallas Jesuit football on Sept. 4 at Kimbrough stadium.

The team made an instant mark on the match as senior Tim Wilson held onto a 63-yard pass from quarterback junior Miklo Smalls for a touchdown within the opening three minutes of the game.

Jesuit fought their way back, however, and the first half came to an end with the scores close at 23-21.

Plano East garnered a comfortable lead after half through a series of impressive plays led by Smalls to finish the third quarter at 43-35.

The fans were full of praise for Smalls following a performance that consisted of two rushing touchdowns and three touchdown passes.

“Miklo Smalls played really well, executing all the quarterback aspects incredibly in both short and long passing,” sophomore Zohaib Moosa said. “He even ran the ball a lot.”

Dallas Jesuit lost a chance to get back on level terms at the restart as junior Jacob Palisch’s pass was intercepted by senior Quan Beasley.

“That interception was a potential game saver,” Moosa said. “Jesuit would have had a real chance at the game had that interception not occurred.”

Plano East capitalized on the wasted opportunity to extend their lead to 50-35 and further cemented their authority on the match following a touchdown by Smalls to make it 56-35. The game ended at 57-42 after Jesuit senior Matt Smith completed a pass to junior Connor Jackson for a consolidation touchdown.

“The game went very well,” former Plano East student Trey Coats said. “They have a bright future for the rest of the season.”

The game saw a combined total of more than a thousand yards covered offensively, which drew minor criticism from the fans aimed at the Plano East defense.

“There is room for improvement in the Plano East defense since they received a lot of flags from the referee,” Moosa said. “They should try closing down on the unnecessary points given away.”

Plano East football will next play Flower Mound on Sept. 11 at Wilson Stadium.

“I think we will make the playoffs,” senior Deandre Miller said. “I think we will win the State Championship.”
