Every fan of the Dallas Cowboys has felt bipolar this year, angry and frustrated after the first week of the season, joyous and proud after weeks two and three and then angry and frustrated again after the fourth week.
Much of the frustration and anger has been toward the Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo but he has been the cause of the pride and joy as well. He has been unpredictable, as to where the fans of the team don’t know which version of him will show up on game day. Will it be the near-perfect, brave, play through pain leader or the collapse in the clutch, ill-decisive mistake maker?
The Cowboys had a bye this week and as they did not play, there has been more anxiety on the part of the fans, having to wait another week to see how the team will respond to week four’s defeat against the Detroit Lions. The loss was especially painful because a 24-point lead was blown and Romo was the main cause of it, throwing three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns after having built that lead with three touchdowns thrown.
Romo has become the butt of a number of jokes, many fans now believe he is incapable of playing well consistently and avoiding mistakes especially in crunch-time. Therefore, in their opinion the team cannot win a championship while he is leading it.
It is ironic that just a couple of weeks ago Romo was a hero and everyone was hoping and praying that he returned to play the next game after being injured. He was loved by all for putting the team ahead of himself and playing through his injury to lead the team to back-to-back victories. Now it seems like nobody loves him.
However, some fans are still optimistic, although they cannot deny his mistake-prone tendencies especially this year, they believe he will bounce back and be the lovable hero once again. Those people are few and far in between.
The team still has a chance to not only play well but win the division with both the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles struggling in the division. However, they face a tough task in their return from the bye week in the New England Patriots on Oct. 16.
