And The Best School Is…

And+The+Best+School+Is...

Earlier this year, I felt the urge to leave Plano Senior and come back to Plano East. People thought I was crazy for making the move in February, a time of year where everything is put into place and moving full steam ahead.

After going to Williams for my freshman and sophomore years, I was stuck doing things the way they are done on the east side. Making a switch to a more traditional style of learning in central wasn’t the most comforting. After learning predominantly through technology and media for the first two years of high school, it wasn’t easy to make a smooth transition back towards textbook-oriented learning.

My time at Plano East has been very short. Coming back makes me feel at home. I never planned to come back to the east side, but after missing the transfer deadline to Clark for my freshman year, I was forced to come back. Throughout the entire summer after my 8th grade year, I thought to myself, “How am I going to start all over again? If only I could manage a way to go back.” But in the end it became one of the greatest experiences I’ve had in my school career.

When I transferred back to Plano Senior, I hoped to regain the feeling of the glorious middle school days. Instead, I immediately began to hate it. Being the new student was never going to be easy, but it felt worse when most of my old friends had forgotten about me and sometimes even ignored me when I’d try to start a conversation with them. Being a social person, I wanted more than just a select few people to be able to talk to throughout the day.

Within minutes of moving back to Plano East, I immediately began to receive warm welcomes. In less than a month, it feels like I never left.

Since I transferred, there has been less pressure on my studies and I seem to understand the content more thoroughly. My grades have slightly improved and I have the ability to finish my homework with little confusion. That’s not to blame the teachers but rather my comfort level around the school.

My favorite part about Plano East is being able to go home and eat lunch. There is nothing better than eating a home-cooked meal that fills you up and costs nothing in return. Because I was a transfer at Plano Senior, I had two choices, buy from the cafeteria or go out for lunch. Now, the third option gives flexibility for when I’m low on funds.

Comparing two completely different schools doesn’t make one better than the other. It truly depends on the individual experience and one’s perception of what they’re presented with. For me, Plano Senior wasn’t the right fit. With much love to the Plano Senior community, yes, Plano East is a better school.
