All those rumors about the legendary rapper still alive and in hiding are true…well kind of. The tattooed artist was seen at Coachella, a music and arts festival held in the valley in California. But it wasn’t what you’re thinking. 2Pac was feeling a little lighter than he usually does; you guessed it, it was a hologram.

As Shakur’s body appeared on the stage, fans weren’t exactly sure how to react. Though before he debuted, rumors circulated the festival about the stunt, as did they immediately after his unveiling. With an odd greeting of “What the f*** is up, Coachella?” fanatics instantly smelled something fishy. We all know, 2Pac would never say such a thing since he died before Coachella even existed.

Following the premiere of the hologram, Twitter flooded with mixed reactions. Some fans felt at unease, claiming the hologram left them uncomfortable. Others expressed the disappointment they encountered once the news hit that it was all a sham, reality hit them hard.

With Dr. Dre’s upcoming album’s release, Detox, right around the corner, many conveyed the opinion that this hologram wasn’t the best idea, as Dr. Dre performed with it at the festival. Even though the album has been in the works for an astonishing 11 years after multiple delays, many fans of the rapper are hesitant of its production. However, the ultimate goal of Dr. Dre’s recreation of the legendary rapper remains with good intentions; a simple homage to the impact 2Pac generated on the hip-hop culture.

Any child born in the 90’s probably will remember the famouscartoons in Cartoon Network and Disney. Who could ever forget the great Dexter and his laboratory, or the three sweet and powerful Powerpuff Girls, and those heartwarming animated films by Disney? By the start of the 21st century everything began to change.

TV has been around for a long, long time! When it was fresh and new, it was something that brought the family together, it was something that everyone had to have in their homes. The programs were few, but they were just so entertaining and unique. Now in the modern world, what on earth has happened!? You have drunk and stupid women on TV who lust for tan, apparently being pregnant at 16 is so popular and amazing you have to be in a TV show about it. Disney now shows more real life shows than the animated programs they had back then, (and these shows are just so….ew) Cartoon Network went way beyond what it used to be, but lately it seems to be redeeming itself, slowly, step by step.

Of course there are people that enjoy watching these “abnormal programs”, explaining why they are so popular. TV has probably gotten ridiculously outrageous over the past decade. But the reality is…it is definitely not the 90’s anymore, so we are going to have to deal with it. There is one-way out: simply don’t watch TV. But now, TV has even gone to the computers, gyms, and café’s. There isn’t really a way to avoid it, but you can. There are still some good things to watch on TV but regardless your going to have to deal with some overdone and over exaggerated commercials.

In a situation like this, it is hard to tell where television is heading. In a couple years, Television might cease to exist. Companies like Netflix themselves now have “TV Shows” that only can be seen through Netflix. There are big changes ahead, but whether they are good or not, remains in static.

On Tuesday, House Speaker John A. Boehner has thrown in his support of Republican candidate Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee for the 2012 elections.

“It is clear now that Mitt Romney is going to be our nominee,” Mr. Boehner said at a news conference following his weekly meeting with the House Republican Conference. “I think Mitt Romney has a set of economic policies that can put Americans back to work and, frankly, contrast sharply with the failed economic policies of President Obama.”

Romney’s plans as president are synchronized with the Republican party’s primary intentions, including deficits, taxes and federal spending reductions, making him a solid choice for Boehner to support.

In other news, Obama’s proposed Buffet rule, which would create a 30-percent tax rate floor for those earning over one million dollars annually, could not come to a decisive vote with a 51- 45 vote. Republicans shot down the Buffet rule, dismissing it as a political gimmick that Obama is using to mislead the people for the sake of popularity in the working class. Although recent polls by CNN and Gallup indicate the buffet rule is popularly supported by Americans, it could be years until the buffet rule sees light under the constant political scrutiny it faces.

This week our very own theatre program at Plano East has been working hard for their spring show and events. After finishing auditions for the Theatre Major Studies, they’ve also been working hard on their Honors Production for the semester. Specifically, the honors class has been practicing for their next play this spring, The Comedy of Errors. The play being best know as one of William Shakespeare’s first and shortest plays, tells the story of two twin brothers separated at birth who’s identities play a big part in the plot. The show will be held on May 17and 18 and there will be some interesting set designs for some of the scenes. One of the elements that will be used is the making of a black box theatre for maximum use of the stage with the perk of keeping set and production costs low. So, if seeing a comedy that deals with elements such as wordplay, slapstick and most of all, mistaken identity is your cup of tea, this play will be perfect for a Thursday or Friday evening.

Hide your Macbooks, hide your iPads, because they’re hacking all the Macs ever since the latest Mac OS X update. A malware infection called FlashBack found it’s way into nearly 700,000 of Apples computers. Thankfully, Apple has found a way to remove the majority of all malware. The fix wont work on some older operating systems, in which case Apple recommends users simply disable Java in order to protect their devices. These fixes were released just days after they shut down the servers that were the source of the virus.

Last summer superhero movies and wizards (Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows pt.2) were some of the largest grossing movies. After Harry Potter dropped the final curtains for the last time, Hollywood began to stack up its science fiction movies to make up for their lack of pale English wizards. Besides the consistent amount of super hero movies, the recent trailer from, master of the Hollywood blockbuster, Ridley Scott and his new movie “Prometheus” stirred up a large amount of buzz. Although not much is clear about how this movie will tie intothe already complex “Alien” universe, the scope of the film alone will be something to behold, especially now that Ridley Scott will be able to use actual special effects.

Not to be outdone by 20th Century Fox, Columbia Pictures has released the trailer for their own Science-Fiction Epic action film, Total Recall. Unlike Prometheus, which just takes place in the same universe as past sci-fi films, Total recall is a remake. The only snag when it comes to the remake is how well Collin Ferrell can fill Schwarzenegger’s shoes, as an action star. Both movies look to fill the summer blockbuster billing pretty well, but personally nothing can beat a modern version of Kuato, so it’s not a contest which would be the weirder movie,

This reincarnated Tupac has received mixed reactions from the media and the public. However, Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, has reportedly told TMZ she was “absolutely positively thrilled” with the performance in which she did not attend and that Dr. Dre had asked for her permission to use her son’s likeliness beforehand.

According to the Wall Street Journal, this is likely not the end for Hologram Tupac. A nationwide tour featuring him alongside real human rappers is in consideration.

MTV confirmed that a movies visual-effects company named Digital Domain, best known for generating an elderly Brad Pitt in 2008’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, created the hologram. Estimates of the hologram’s production range from $100,000 to $400,000.

Despite the popular belief that teenage pregnancy rates are rising sharply, a recent government study shows that birth rates are actually at their lowest in over 60 years.

The study was conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics in 2010, and included teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 19. Statistics showed that births given by teenagers fell by nine percent. These rates are at their lowest since 1946.

The results of the study indicate that more and more teenagers are participating in safe sexual practices, if at all.

The NBA season is closing to a draw, and there are many close playoff races still going. In the Eastern Conference, first through sixth place is settled, but seventh through ninth still have some battling to do. Right now, New York and Philadelphia are in while Milwaukee is out, but that could change over the next week. Chicago has a good chance of staying first in the conference, and Miami will remain second. The rest of the positions are just battling for position spots in the playoffs, which means Indiana, Boston, Atlanta, and Orlando will make it in regardless of what happens.

In the Western Conference, playoff positions are a little unclear. Positions six through eight are the ones that have the most intrigue, as Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, and Utah are all batting for the final three spots. The San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder are tied for the number one spot at the top of the conference, and whoever finishes first will get home court advantage through the playoffs. The Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers are battling it out for third place, while the Memphis Grizzlies seem to be locked in at the fifth spot. The race into the playoffs should be exciting in the lockout-shortened season.

The NHL is in the midst of first-round playoff series. In the Western Conference, things aren’t going to plan for the 1-8 matchup. The Los Angeles Kings, ranked eighth, are on the verge of beating the number one seed, Vancouver Canucks. The rest of the series are more balanced, with the St. Louis Blues playing the Anaheim Ducks, the Phoenix Coyotes are playing the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Nashville Predators are playing the Detroit Red Wings.

In the Eastern Conference, there is only one series that is on the verge of being over, and that is the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Philadelphia Flyers, as the Flyers have a 3-0 series lead. Other matchups include the number one seeded New York Rangers against eighth seeded Ottawa Senators, the Boston Bruins playing the Washington Capitals, and the New Jersey Devils playing the Florida Panthers. The road to the Stanley Cup has just begun.

In the NFL things are mostly quiet because it is the offseason. However, there was news in that the New Orleans Saints got in trouble because coaches and players paid players to knock opponents out of games, or hurt them badly. Because of that, Sean Peyton, the head coach of the Saints, is suspended the whole season, and assistant coaches are suspended half the season.

The MLB season started only recently, and is already exciting many fans of teams who weren’t supposed to do well, like the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers are leading their division and the National League with a 9-1 record, whether that holds up throughout the season will be interesting. The Washington Nationals are leading the Eastern division with a 7-3 record, and the defending world champion St. Louis Cardinals are leading the Central division with a 7-3 record.

In the American League, things are going just as predicted. The Yankees, Oriels, Blue Jays, Rays, and Red Sox are all close to each other in the Eastern division. The Detroit Tigers are ahead in the Central division with a record of 6-3 and the Rangers are leading the West division with an 8-2 record. The Angels are surprisingly last place in the West, despite picking up major free agents Albert Puljos and C.J. Wilson in the offseason. About 150 more games until the baseball season is over, so the standings have plenty of time to shift.
