Just like the movies, the biggest and best TV shows usually come out during the fall in the hopes of grasping viewers hungry for more drama after the summer off-season. The leftovers, low-budget projects and absurd plotlines are left for the winter months. This rule looks like it will hold true again this year with a few exceptions.

Some shows, such as the he-she comedy “Work It” have already failed after less than a month run on ABC. If this show is any indication then winter TV is already off to a bad start. One part Cheech Marin, and one part Rob Schneider, “Rob” debuted on CBS back in early January. A painfully naïve white guy (Schneider) ties the knot with an out of his league Hispanic lady and marries into her family. Stereotypes and recycled jokes ensue.

Washed up rocker Dave Navarro struggles to find his way back to relevancy by hosting “Ink Master.” Tattoo shows appeal to niche audiences to begin with, and this isn’t even the only one coming out this winter so don’t worry about saving room on your DVR for this.

Geeks rejoice! Director Kevin Smith is letting cameras follow him around his New Jersey comic book store, called the Secret Stash. “Comic Book Men” will be AMC’s first breakaway from the scripted TV programming that put them on the map.

Don Cheadle is stepping into the small screen for his role as a ferocious and relentless management consultant named Marty in “House of Lies.” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall’s” Kristen Bell, who is one of Marty’s cutthroat crew, joins him.

The void of mysterious television left when “Lost” ended might finally be filled by ABC’s new show “The River.” A famous explorer goes missing in the Amazon and his family brings a documentary crew with them to go look for him.

There probably won’t be any snow to play with this winter so stay inside, and check out some of the new shows.
